On the tightest addresses we work off a smaller truck and take more trips, which is slower and honest — the alternative is a big truck blocking a street, which ends with a crew moving it every twenty minutes and you paying for the interruptions.
The other constraint is the fabric itself. Between the brownstones, the triple-deckers and the older squares, Cambridge has a great deal of exterior fabric that is protected in one way or another. The city has both historic districts and neighborhood conservation districts, and in several of them changes visible from the street can require review before work starts. We check what applies to an address during the estimate rather than after, because a stop-work order halfway through a walkway rebuild is nobody's idea of a good week.

My back yard is only reachable through a three-foot gangway. Is that a problem?
It is normal. A large share of Cambridge rear gardens are hand-access only and it is the first thing we measure. What it changes is the price and the schedule, not whether the job can happen — everything goes in and out by barrow, so a patio that takes a day in Newton takes two here. We would rather tell you that at the estimate than bill it to you as an overrun.
Do you deal with the parking permits?
Yes. Most of Cambridge is resident permit parking and the enforcement is real. For anything needing street space we pull the permits and post the signage in advance through the city's process. For jobs on streets that genuinely cannot take a truck, we run a smaller vehicle and more trips and we tell you that up front rather than after.
I have a roof deck, not a yard. Can you do anything with it?
Yes, and it is a bigger part of our Cambridge work than lawns are. What kills roof deck planting here is soil volume, drainage and winter exposure rather than neglect — containers that are too small freeze solid in February and cook in July. Get the volume and the drainage right at the start and the maintenance afterwards becomes almost trivial.
